Personally, I never recline my seat because I don't want to annoy the person behind but then I lose out because the person in front decides that they want to recline and put their feet up to watch an in-flight movie.
This happened to me the last time I flew and it wasn't until halfway through the flight that the woman decided to put her seat up a bit after she saw my legs wrapped around it. It didn't last long before she had fully reclined again.
